There is no finish line. Despite all the challenges that have been faced in the past two years, there is no end to the constant change and complexity of the working environment. We start 2023 knowing that the ‘permacrisis’ is here to stay. Recession, travel disruption, winter illness and concerns over the cost of living are all huge external factors, which affect the daily resilience and motivation of employees in the workplace.

Through all of our work with clients, the messages we are hearing are that of burnout, lack of psychological safety, challenges building connections in a hybrid environment, conflicting messages around performance versus wellbeing. The list goes on, but the under-current is one of constant change and a need for resilience to keep going.

We addressed this during our most recent breakfast networking session, where we explored the need for soft skills and resilient leadership, during what are no doubt going to be hard times ahead. As we connected with some of our Kin&Co community, we uncovered solidarity, that everyone is experiencing similar issues, and also inspiration, as there are so many smart solutions being implemented.

Led by Becky Hewitt, Chief of Staff at Kin&Co, we ran a workshop on what skills your leaders and managers need to enable them to inspire, motivate and boost performance in these uncertain times. We shared a taster session on our ‘Leading in A New World’ leadership programme which is centred around developing essential soft skills such as building resilience and creating a sense of belonging.

We know from research that 79% of employees are not engaged, and that companies in the top quartile of engagement are 21% more profitable, so getting it right can make a big difference. For many, this means undoing years of habits, and rebuilding new ones. Sharing our approach to this with a sneak peak at our high impact and inspiring 5-week programme, gave our connections some idea about how we can effortlessly deliver measurable results. Which, by the way, our clients love.

“ It’s hard to cut through the noise sometimes so taking time out to connect with people in a similar role, re-focus and approach a challenging situation from a new perspective has been great.” (Head of People, Financial Sector)
